Algeria Crowned Champions at the eFIBA Africa Pre-Qualifiers

Algeria have emerged as the new champions of eFIBA Africa, claiming the continental title after a dramatic and highly competitive pre-qualifiers tournament that showcased the depth and growing quality of basketball esports across Africa.

The tournament featured 15 teams, divided into two groups. Group A, made up of eight teams, and Group B, consisting of seven teams, battled for just two qualification spots per group to advance to the knockout stages. From Group A, Algeria and Somalia secured progression, while Morocco and Tunisia advanced from Group B.

The knockout rounds delivered intense matchups. Morocco edged past Tunisia, while Algeria defeated Somalia to book their place in the next phase. Tunisia and Somalia then faced off in the loser brackets, awaiting the chance to meet the loser between Morocco and Algeria for a final shot at the championship.

In a dramatic turn of events, Morocco defeated Algeria, sending them to the loser’s bracket. Algeria, however, mounted a remarkable comeback, overcoming Somalia to earn a second chance at the title. In the decisive rematch against Morocco, Algeria held its nerve and secured a 2–1 victory, completing one of the most impressive comeback stories of the tournament.

With this victory, Algeria are crowned champions of Africa at the eFIBA Africa pre-qualifiers, reclaiming the title that was held by Morocco last year. The result underscores Algeria’s resilience and growing strength in basketball esports on the continent.

As champions, Algeria will represent Africa at the eFIBA Grand Finals in Qatar, alongside Morocco. As the top two teams from the region, both nations will carry Africa’s hopes as they compete against the world’s best on the global stage.
