Esports Federation of Zambia Partners with Open Window University to Drive Growth and Innovation

The Esports Federation of Zambia has formalized a new partnership with Open Window University through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), a move expected to boost the development of esports and digital skills across the country.

The agreement, signed by the Federation’s President, outlines four key areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening the academic, competitive, and developmental landscape of esports in Zambia.

This partnership is built on four key pillars designed to accelerate the growth, visibility, and professionalization of esports in Zambia:

1. Academic Collaboration

The Federation will work closely with Open Window University to enhance training in gaming, software development, and other creative disciplines. This collaboration aims to nurture young talent and equip students with the technical and creative skills needed to excel in the rapidly evolving digital industry.

2. Co-Hosting Major Events

Under the MOU, both institutions will jointly host major esports competitions—ranging from national tournaments to international events. This initiative is expected to position Zambia as a vibrant esports destination and create opportunities for local players to compete on larger stages.

3. Internship Opportunities

To foster hands-on learning, the Federation will collaborate with the University to place students in internship programs. These opportunities will allow young people studying gaming, esports management, and software development to gain real-world experience and contribute meaningfully to the ecosystem.

4. Esports Awareness and Community Engagement

A critical component of this partnership is the joint effort to raise awareness about esports across Zambia, particularly within schools. By promoting esports education and engagement, both institutions aim to build a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and future-ready community.

Following the signing, the Federation’s President, Dickson Jere expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved and emphasized the importance of moving quickly into the implementation phase.

Dickson Jere had this to say: “I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone involved in making this partnership a reality. This MOU marks the beginning of a transformative journey, and I look forward to bringing these initiatives to life. Congratulations to all and onward to a brighter future for esports in Zambia!”

The partnership is widely viewed as a significant step toward expanding esports education, participation, and professional development across Zambia.
